From an article on the The Times of India,
It seems like the saga of five-day working week, enjoyed by over 15 lakh technology professionals in the country, would soon be a thing of the past.
TOI had first reported last month that such a thing was being considered by some companies to offset the impact of the rupee appreciation on their margins. Now we hear some are actually moving ahead on the idea, and implementing it in certain sections.
…
There is no official communication yet, but that, employees think, may be because the company does not want to upset overall morale.
…
Here is what Wipro HR VP says:
‘‘Some of us are already working on Saturdays depending on delivery schedules and deadlines. But there is no plan to introduce a six-day working regime, although the idea sounds good.’’
I am sure this asshole has never worked a saturday in his whole life, except maybe teeing up the golf ball.
All this sounds very depressing to me. These companies are NOT looking to cut losses (none of them are losing any money, their profits are in the billions, and their growth percentage are still positive), they are just trying to fight their decrease in profit margins as a result of the appreciation of the Rupee. What a boost this would be to the employee morale !

Funny question this is – how much profit is enough profit?
The reality still remains that a significant majority of the youg IT workers hang around their offices during nights and weekends, owing to attractive living conditions like free coffee/snacks/food, internet, Airconditioning, Gym, TT and other extra carricular activities.
Only a less percent people (mostly married ppl ) really utilize the 2 day off. This does not mean that i am in for 6 day work week.
Having a 5 day week unofficially makes it a 6 day week because quite a few people have to come on saturdays also. By making it a 6 day week officially will cause work to cut into the sundays also. Burn out is going to be the unavoidable result. The company wouldnt care initially but it is a lose-lose transaction for both the company and employee in the long term.
Hm, cant thinnk about a 6 day week… we had to fight hard to make Saturday a holiday in our company….
From http://economictimes.indiatimes.com/Infotech/Infosys_pays_1m_to_six_employees/articleshow/2396005.cms
BANGALORE: Million-dollar pay cheques no longer raise eyebrows in the Indian IT industry. Given the huge demand for high-quality professionals, some top-notch companies are willing to pay the big bucks.
Six employees of Infosys Technologies posted overseas earn $1 million annually, perhaps making the company the highest paymaster in the Indian IT industry.
According to sources, these six employees are neither part of the founding team and nor are they board members. In fact, they are business heads of the company’s different verticals. The list does not end here.
There are around five professionals who earn a package of $800,000 and about 25 professionals in the $500,000 bracket. In the case of Infosys, the differentiating factor is that they (employees) are professionals and are no way linked to the founder members.
6 days a week is a complete NO NO. how much these will squeeze more of their employees?
6 days a week is a complete NO NO. how much these Companies will squeeze more of their employees?
we have now say in this the golfers decide they can work from home or holiday resort on weekends
the billable goats have to heed to their shephards….the profits can be sustained by axing the white elephants….less people issues and people managers…it is sad that the dollars…
even in the most ancient trade pimps make more than the screwed….the same invariably applies here.
it is sad that the old dollars it geeks brought into India and FDI are obstructing the new dollars…

6 days!!!!!!
unglaublich!!!!
Naaah….Really i dont like this.
6 days work!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
I am resigning the job!!!!!!!!!!
Saturday Workingdayahhhhhahhhahhhhh!!!!!
Salary should be doubled on that day!!!!
This is too much. Just to gain popularity and his/her status in the company some advisors and HR reps are doing these hypes. Already some companies are working for 9 hours and making it 6 days a week would be just like getting more work done (54 hours per week) – more than a from that of a dumb animal.
This is not a good thing to bring in w.r.t to the employees health and personal life point of view.
Already the s/w employees are stressed out with the 5 days work and goinh ahead with this 6 days concept it would be just HELL.
May be the Government should start checking into this and help these poor chaps. Also why not the software gaints think about having talks with proper people who think of both the business and also about people.
Manager level people – please think as HUMAN BEINGS, just to get some extra bucks in your appraisals you should not butcher people.
One day I truly believe the rupee will appreciate and these companies will make us work like donkeys. And donkeys know not, days of the week. We would have to relinquish our families, all worldly pleasures and our homes. They don’t have any efficient or innovative means of making profits other than get people to toil for them all day and all night.
This old fools are so much frustrated with their wife’s that they are coming up with such weird ideas. Their Wife’s are not able to tolerate them on weekend’s so these fools are coming with such plans . We are already working 10-12 hrs a day, now they are after our lifes. On this our pays are also being reduced….
Cool! Peshi ischo
